action-bible-collectorsIn celebration of more than 1 million copies sold of The Action Bible: God's Redemptive Story, David C Cook announced Friday the release of The Action Bible Collector’s Edition. The Collector’s Edition features a premium chrome cover and organizes the 215 stories from the Old and New Testaments in chronological order, making it easy to follow the Bible’s historical flow.

The Action Bible is being translated into 88 languages for distribution around the world, with over 340,000 units in print in Brazil alone. David C Cook created The Story of Jesus Christ booklet, an extracted story from The Action Bible, for ministry use. The booklet has been translated into 52 languages and is available in 95 countries, with more than 49 million copies in circulation.

Brazilian-born comic book artist Sergio Cariello, who has drawn Spider-Man, Superman, Batman and dozens more iconic characters for Marvel and DC Comics, labored three years on the Action Bible illustrations.

“I’ve worked on many comics that I’m proud of, but there is nothing like doing a relevant story with eternal value,” Cariello said. “All those other characters and stories will someday end, but the stories and impact of The Action Bible will last forever. It is a privilege and the honor of a lifetime for a Christian cartoonist to get to draw and bring to life God’s own stories.”

Cris Doornbos, CEO of David C Cook, commented on the sales milestone.

“We intended The Action Bible to speak to a new generation and bring the stories of the Bible to life in their hearts and minds,” Doornbos said. “We are excited to reach this milestone and believe it is just the beginning of ministering to children around the corner and the globe.”

Gerald Hicks Steward, owner of Perfect Peace Christian & Education in Wichita, Kansas, explained why he thought The Action Bible sold well at retail.

The Action Bible is in a format that kids love, and it keeps them engaged in wanting to read the Bible,” Steward said. “It is such a blessing to see the reaction from parents when they pick up The Action Bible and know their kids will enjoy reading it. Since its release, sales have remained strong. We have sold over 500 units of The Action Bible and related items. There are very few products you can buy by the case and have confidence in selling.”
