Veteran Christian music groups NewSong and Newsboys have recently announced the return of band members from their lineups in the 1990s. Russ Lee, lead vocalist for NewSong on the albums and tours for People Get Ready (1994) and Love Revolution (1997), is rejoining as lead singer and guitarist Jody Davis, a member of the Newsboys from 1992-2003 and was replaced by Paul Colman, has rejoined that group as guitarist. Colman has left to resume his solo career.

Lee, who released several solo projects, told his email newsletter subscribers he is “honored and excited” to return to NewSong, which has “a strong heritage of commitment to sharing the gospel around the world which matches our (Lee and his wife’s) heartbeat as well.”

Davis had left Newsboys to care for his daughter Bethany, who has cerebral palsy. In a statement, he said he was “thrilled to be returning to the band and back with my bandmates, who are some of my best friends. This is a big change in my life, and I’m looking forward to the tour and new record with excitement.”

Both groups are preparing new releases for 2009. The new project from Newsboys is scheduled to release May 5 while NewSong’s release date has not been finalized.
