Jewelry maker Bob Siemon Designs is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its “Shield of Faith” collection. More than 3/4 of a million shield pendants have been sold since 2003. Created as a memento from loved ones for deployed servicemen, the shields carry an inscribed message on the back: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.–Joshua 1:9b.” “The Shield of Faith is meant to remind people that God is with us in every step of life,” designer and owner Bob Siemon said. “This simple message is as relevant now as it was 10 years ago and will continue to encourage in the future.” One soldier found that to be true on the battlefield in 2006. A U.S. Army sergeant was wearing his pendant, a gift from his mother, while serving on his second tour in Iraq. A sniper’s bullet meant for his heart instead dented the shield, saving his life. The lead-free pewter message card with pin and pendants retail for $3.99 or $7.99, respectively. Sterling silver pieces run $53-$198, and 14-kt. gold items retail for $670-$2,062.
