Former Word Label Group President Barry Landis is joining Howard Books as vice president, associate publisher, effective Jan. 17. “I am delighted to have someone of Barry’s caliber join our team” said Jonathan Merkh, vice president and publisher. “He brings a wealth of not only marketing and industry knowledge, but is a visionary and will help us take Howard to new heights.” During his term as president of Word Label Group, he led the company to a complete financial turnaround within three years. A Warner Bros. employee for 20 years, Landis distinguished himself as a strategic marketer, working across numerous divisions within Time Warner, including Atlantic Records, Curb Records, Time-Life, AOL, Turner Home Video, TNT Television, Warner Music Group, WEA Corporation as well as many outside partners such as PBS and Reader’s Digest. Landis comes to Howard Books from his Nashville-based consulting firm, Landis Entertainment & Media Partners, focusing on theatrical distribution and marketing, including the recent Robert Duvall film Seven Days in Utopia. “Authors have always had such an impact on culture and media, I can’t wait to partner with such creative individuals and find new ways to bring their books to market,” Landis said. Landis is also the founder of the Nashville Faith in Film Breakfast Club and The Briner Institute, an entertainment industry think tank. He is on the board of the Nashville Chapter of The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (GRAMMYs), has been executive producer on many music projects and he has more than 25 Gold or Platinum sales awards from artists with whom he has worked. Christian Radio & Retail Weekly named him one of the Top 50 Most Influential People in America. |
