Study: Self-publishing explodes to unprecedented levels Print Email

Bowker-Logo-webA new Bowker study has shown that self-publishing has expanded exponentially, with e-books eating up significant market share.

More than 391,000 self-published titles were released in 2012, an increase of 59% over 2011 and 422% over 2007, according to the study. E-books continue to gain on print, comprising 40% of the ISBNs that were self-published in 2012, up from just 11% in 2007.

Study: Consumers expected to trim holiday budgets amid uncertainty Print Email

MatthewShay-NRF-WebFaced with continued economic uncertainty, consumers will take a conservative approach to spending this holiday season, according to a study by the National Retail Federation (NRF).

The NRF’s holiday consumer spending survey indicated the average holiday shopper will spend $737.95 on gifts, décor, greeting cards and more, 2% less than the $752.24 they spent last year. Despite that decrease, NRF is forecasting holiday sales will increase 3.9% to $602.1 billion.

This motion picture will bring the story of Jesus’ life to audiences through the same cinematic storytelling that Fox says has made The Bible the best-selling miniseries of all time.

Producer and Actress Roma Downey (Touched by an Angel, The Bible) and Producer Mark Burnett (The Voice, Survivor, The ApprenticeThe Bible) brought the epic miniseries to television audiences around the world with their company LightWorkers Media. The series became the No. 1 cable entertainment telecast of the year, one of the fastest-selling TV-to-disc titles ever and went on to garner three Emmy Award nominations.

LBGamesLogo-webThe Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) froze the stock of Christian software developer Left Behind Games in the midst of a fraud investigation. Left Behind Games founder, CEO and CFO Troy Lyndon and Lighthouse Educational Ministries prison ministry founder and Executive Director Ronald Zaucha, founder of prison ministry Lighthouse Educational Ministries—have been charged with conspiring to artificially inflate the software company’s revenues by 1,300%.

Lyndon issued nearly 2 billion shares of stock to Zaucha in what the SEC lawsuit alleges was a scheme to falsely inflate the company’s value by injecting millions of unregistered shares into the marketplace.

TobyMacWithAwardsDeWayne-cropped-webSix-time GRAMMY winner TobyMac took home four awards at the 44th Annual GMA Dove Awards, including Artist of the Year—his second time winning the honor. The ForeFront Records (Capitol Christian Distribution) artist also garnered awards at the Oct. 15 ceremony in Nashville for Pop/Contemporary Album and Recorded Music Packaging for Eye on It and Short Form Video of the Year for the music video for his album’s title track.

“It feels weird to be called Artist of the Year when I know it takes a family, and I always want to acknowledge that,” said TobyMac. “I said in one of my songs a long time ago, I'm just a little man trying to fit in God's plan. I still feel like that.”

‘Supernatural Childbirth’ author Jackie Mize dies Print Email

JackieMizeHarrison House author Jackie Mize died Oct. 14. Mize’s 1993 book, Supernatural Childbirth, is an international best-seller with more than 40 print runs.

Supernatural Childbirth has been translated into Italian, Korean, Polish and other languages during the 20 years since its initial publication. In 2005, Harrison House also released Prayers & Promises for Supernatural Childbirth, a pocket-sized version of the original book.
