Teresa Commerford, product marketing manager for "Willow Tree," Demdaco What trends do you see currently in the design of figurines? "Rather than just being cutesy, figurine design is becoming more intentional with the purpose to convey a story or message. We are also seeing more simplicity in form and color (softness and neutrality)." What are today's standards in pricing? "The current state of the economy plays a large role in pricing standards. There is a fine balance in maintaining pricing that is customer-friendly, while also providing prices that work within each organization's operational model. Of course, every organization has their own model to maintain and tolerance level to speak to." How can Christian retail stores best decide which lines or particular pieces to carry? "They need to consider three key objectives: 1) their customer base, 2) amount of space and 3) what kind of message they want to convey to their customers-product offering tells the consumer who they are as a store." What recommendations do you have for merchandising/display? "Make it interesting and tell a story. For example, if you want to create a beautiful table vignette for love/wedding, include pieces that convey that message, and mix in a variety of formats (figurines, keepsake boxes, frames, candleholders). Add some simple propping like a sprinkling of simple florals, a hat box and a pretty Bible. You would be amazed at the impact of a simple outpost table. "For regular in-line displays, first observe how your customers shop. Do they shop by theme or by format? Then, set your display to work for your customer. Every store is different, and there is no one correct answer. And, never underestimate the value and power of P.O.P. signs. If you have them, use them." What is Demdaco's most popular figurine at this time? "This tends to change by season, but it is currently Close to Me in the ‘Willow Tree' line, a new mother/daughter figurine introduced in January."
