Minister and author Tullian Tchividjian, the grandson of Billy Graham, has been named senior pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. If approved by a congregational vote, Tchividjian will be only the second senior pastor the church has ever had, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported. D. James Kennedy, its founding pastor, died in September 2007 at the age of 76. Tchividjian would merge his 5-1/2-year-old congregation-New City Church in Margate, Fla., with a weekly attendance of 600 to 700-with an established, half-century-old church of 2,200 members and weekly attendance of 1,800, the newspaper reported. Tchividjian--who spoke earlier this month during The Gathering 2009, the Christian Retailing-sponsored event held in Kissimmee, Fla.--has written two books for Multnomah Books: Do I Know God? Finding Certainty in Life's Most Important Relationship and Unfashionable: Making a Difference in the World by Being Different, due out in April. |
