Baker Book House in Grand Rapids, Mich., is celebrating reformer John Calvin's 500th birthday with a couple of special events intended to draw shoppers. The store's "Calvin: A Baker Book House Forum" on July 7 will feature a discussion between three Calvin scholars intended for what organizers call "the serious-minded theologian," while "the light-hearted Calvinist" will be the focus three days later. That is when the store will host John Calvin: The Birthday Party & Dress-Up Contest, when visitors will be served birthday cake. Customers arriving dressed as Calvin will get 25% off their orders and be entered to win a $250 grand prize. |
