Evangelism and church resource organization Outreach debuted its forthcoming To Save a Life this week, a teen-oriented movie due to release in 1,000 theaters in January. Starring Randy Wayne (The Dukes of Hazzard, The Last Hurrah) and Deja Kreutzberg (CSI Miami, Law and Order), the film about an all-star athlete forced to make major changes in his life to help others is to be preceded by several October releases at retail. A novelization by screenwriters Jim and Rachel Britts will sell for $14.99, while a Devo2Go, an interactive audio devotional featuring members of the cast, will be on sale for $14.99. A $79.99 curriculum kit and $27.99 student kit also will be released. "The bottom line is, you are never more like Jesus than when you are helping the hurting," said Brenda Josee, product manager for Outreach's publishing and marketing products division. Reaction to the advance screenings at ICRS had been "unbelievable," she said. "The stores are excited." While Fireproof, for which Outreach also provided curriculum, had been "overtly evangelistic," To Save a Life was more low-key, Josee said. "Our prayer is that this will reach outside the church audience. We want it to be a tool that can be used by all teenagers." The theatrical release will be followed by church-based screenings, with a DVD release likely in the spring of 2010.
