CBA Indonesia and its chairman, Billy Lantang, were recently honored by the Christian Trade Association International (CTAI) during its annual International Vision Celebration at the International Christian Retail Show. Lantang was recognized with the Peter Gunther International Award, named after a former CBA international director who died in 1991. Under Lantang's leadership, CBA Indonesia's Indonesian Christian Retail Expo 2008--held last September in Jakarta--drew about 10,000 attendees and nearly 225 exhibitors to the first-ever event of its kind in the world's largest Muslim country, CTAI officials said. "Under Billy's leadership, there is a thriving Christian trade association in Indonesia," said Sylvester Ejeh, CTAI's chairman. "For that we praise the Lord. We also are grateful that Billy and his colleagues took up the idea of holding a Christian book fair in Indonesia. They heard that other countries were holding Christian fairs for the public and decided, ‘Why not Indonesia?' ... God encouraged and blessed the church in Indonesia, including a lot of folks who probably weren't sure it could even be done." |
