Christian author and speaker Carol Kent was recently featured in the season premiere of WE TV's Secret Lives of Women. Her story was one of four spotlighted, starting Aug. 18, on the segment "Mothers of Murderers," which chronicled how her son, Jason, shot to death his wife's ex-husband outside an Orlando, Fla., restaurant in plain view of passers-by. Jason was sentenced to life in prison, without the possibility of parole. The one-hour episode featured Kent, her husband, Gene, and Jason. Kent, who wrote about her experience in When I Lay My Isaac Down: Unshakable Faith in Unthinkable Circumstances (NavPress, 2004), told The Tampa Tribune that she did the show to help other mothers and relatives of inmates. "Most people live in a prison of their own making ... when a family member is incarcerated," she said. "When we begin to be real, that is the most freeing experience we can have." Kent's other books include Becoming a Woman of Influence, Mothers Have Angel Wings, Secret Longings of the Heart, Tame Your Fears, Speak Up With Confidence and Detours, Tow Trucks, and Angels in Disguise (all NavPress). She is also the general editor of the "Kisses of Sunshine" series (Zondervan). |
