Tracey Bateman, author of Thirsty (WaterBrook Press), is among the readers weighing on the discussion sparked by the recent Christian Retailing story of vampire-themed titles and products with an evangelical vein finding their way onto the shelves of Christian bookstores. Responding to the concerns of a reader, Bateman commented that the vampires in her novel "are used as symbols much like Tolkien's hobbits and wizards." She added: "As a Christian, I would never want to involve myself in a situation that is harmful or that would cause offense. But please know that Thirsty points readers toward the answer, not Satan."
