Bookstore representatives were given a preview of a revival initiative that is to tour the country later this year, at The Gathering 2010 last night. They joined members of host Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Ky., for the launch of the Not a Fan movement that is to be backed by a DVD small-group video curriculum and book featuring the message of the church's teaching minister, Kyle Idleman. The special Night of Revival service began with a preview of the six-part, small-group series created by City on a Hill Productions and to be released this summer. It featured testimonies from people telling how through personal crises and difficulties they had been brought to a point of making an all-out commitment to Christ. Idleman told how more than 16,000 people have joined the online community that has formed since he first spoke at the church about the need for Christians to move from being "just a fan, an enthusiastic admirer of Jesus" to becoming a true follower. "The most dangerous threat to the church today are the many who fill our sanctuaries and have somehow come to believe they can become Christians without actually following Jesus," he said. "There will be no revival in this land until we repent of that sin." Cary Meyer, the church's director of communications, said that the DVD series was due to be released in July, with a tour of major cities later in the year. Idleman was also in discussions with publishers about a book based on his message. The "Not a Fan" series--subtitled "Completely. Committed. Follower"--has sold well at the church's The Living Word bookstore, as have Not a Fan T-shirts, Meyer added. The Living Word bookstore was named the 2009 Large Church Bookstore of the Year by The Church Bookstore magazine. |
