First VeggieTales project for girls coming Print Email

In its first-ever VeggieTales project geared to girls, Big Idea is releasing Sweetpea Beauty-A Girl After God's Own Heart in Christian retail stores Saturday, July 31, three days ahead of the general market.

The fairy-tale parody of Sleeping Beauty teaches a lesson about true beauty based on 1 Sam. 16:7: "For the Lord sees not as man sees. Man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."

"We're thrilled to introduce the first VeggieTales show created specifically for girls," said Greg Fritz, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Big Idea. "Sweetpea Beauty is a fun and meaningful fairy ‘Veggie' tale that will help young girls understand the real value of true beauty and that God loves them just as He made them. A comprehensive line of consumer products will be available that will allow girls to play and learn about this important life-changing lesson."

Retailing for $14.99, Sweetpea Beauty and tie-in products will be supported by a marketing and advertising campaign from Enesco and its Gund plush and Gregg Gift divisions, Chuck E. Cheese, Crocs/Jibbitz, Gymboree and Crazy 8.

Featuring the song "Beautiful For Me" by singer-songwriter Nichole Nordeman, the 45-minute DVD has bonus features, including a Silly Song, "Pants," and sing-along song, "More Beautiful."

"The topic of beauty-real beauty-has long been near and dear to my heart," said Nordeman, who wrote and recorded an original song for the first time in more than two years. "I am thrilled that VeggieTales is tackling this tough and murky issue for young girls.
