Christian publishing veteran Larry Carpenter's new consulting firm has entered into a long-term agreement to advise Creation By Design (CBD) in its rollout of new products. Based in Teaneck, N.J. and founded last year by Steven Kaye, CBD offers Bible-based trading cards, featuring 3-D, computer-generated artwork. This fall, the company will roll out more than 50 new products, including a second series of collectible trading cards, BibleStrike--a card-based strategy game--T-shirts, posters, postcards, artwork and giftware. Carpenter--who recently stepped down as president of Standard Publishing--launched last month Christian Book Services, which offers consulting help covering everything from content creation to printing, marketing and distribution. As part of his role with CBD, Carpenter will also serve as acting CEO for the company. Carpenter said CBD was "the perfect company to be the first large client for my new company." "It is an innovative company with distinctive products created by people who are passionate about sharing the great stories of the Bible with others," he added. "I'm excited to be working with a company that does that." Prior to serving at Standard Publishing, Carpenter was a marketing vice president at Thomas Nelson and was formerly president of Spring Arbor. He also founded FaithWorks, a full-service distributor, which he sold to STL Distribution North America. Kaye told Christian Retailing that his company could not turn down the opportunity to work with a 25-year-plus industry veteran. "The man is a genius when it comes to Christian retailing and publishing," he said. "It would be insane of me not to take advantage of his expertise."
