Veteran Christian broadcaster Charles R. "Ron" Hembree, who wrote several books, died June 10 at his home in Murrysville, Pa. He was 72. The president of Cornerstone Television and a National Religious Broadcasters board member, Hembree wrote more than 70 books, including Sixty Seconds With God ("Good Morning Lord Devotions") (Christian Art Gifts) and Fruit of the Spirit: The Keys to Christian Personality (Revell). "Our hearts are broken for Cathy Hembree and the children, but as the apostle Paul wrote to the Thessalonian church, ‘We are not like those who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus,' " Cornerstone's Web site said. Hembree had a daily TV program called Rejoice, which aired for seven years before Quick Study started in 1990 and takes viewers through the Bible in one year. He also originated the His Place television program, which still airs nationwide and has twice received the Covenant Award--which recognized religious TV programs. Hembree--who also served as pastor of several churches--is survived by his wife, Cathy, and eight children. A memorial service will air on Cornerstone's WPCB-TV on July 7.
