Christian publishing guru Sally Stuart was honored for her service to other writers with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Advanced Writers & Speakers Association (AWSA). The author of the celebrated industry directory, the Christian Writers' Market Guide-now in its 25th year-received the award during the organization's annual Golden Scroll Awards from author Susan Titus Osborn. The honor was given at the end of a two-day conference that saw around 60 of the organization's 300 members gather for training and encouragement. In her keynote address, actress (Matlock) and author Nancy Stafford urged attendees to continue in their ministries despite the challenges of a changing industry. "Don't fear failure," she said, sharing stories from her own life and career of how God was in control even when things did not seem to be working out the way she hoped or planned. The awards ceremony also saw the presentation of the first annual Beyond Me Award, presented by author Kathi Macias, whose 2008 book was titled Beyond Me: Living a You-First Life in a Me-First World (New Hope Publishers). The award went to AWSA member Rebekah Montgomery for "modeling a you-first life." Other awards were: AWSA Member of the Year: Rhonda Rhea; Publisher of the Year: Tyndale House Publishers; Editor of the Year: Lonnie Hull DuPont (Revell/Baker Publishing Group); and Fiction Editor of the Year: Sue Brower (Zondervan). |
