Christian retailers are going to have to wait longer than they had hoped for the follow-up movie from the makers of Fireproof, credited along with its tie-in bestseller, The Love Dare, for helping keep some stores in business. Courageous, the police drama addressing issues of fatherhood that has just finished shooting, will likely not be released in theaters until fall 2011, Stephen Kendrick, co-writer and producer, said yesterday. "Of course, we would like for the movie to come out real soon, but we will just have to be patient," he said. Editing will take the next few months, to be followed by advance screenings of the film for churches and other groups the makers hope will get behind it. "Then the summer hits and there will be several superhero movies coming out at the same time, so we have to dodge the tidal wave and wait for a window," he said. The delay will "give us a little more time to partner with ministries and get our ducks in a row." In the meantime, he and his brother Alex, who partnered on the making of Fireproof and the writing of The Love Dare, will also work on a book for B&H Publishing Group that will address issues related to Courageous, Kendrick said. |
