A documentary on the culture wars and religious debate that has received positive reviews, Lord Save Us From Your Followers will debut tonight at 7 p.m. PST on the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN). Released in theaters last September, the film was written and directed by Dan Merchant, who wrote the book Lord, Save Us From Your Followers: Why is the Gospel of Love Dividing America?, published by Thomas Nelson in 2008. The DVD was released in April and distributed to Christian retail by New Day Christian Distributors. In the film, Merchant interviews Sen. Al Franken; former Sen. Rick Santorum; William P. Young, author of the The Shack (Windblown Media/Hachette Book Group); and conservative radio host Michael Reagan. The documentary also features news clips of celebrities such as Bono, Bill Maher, Bill O'Reilly, Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart and George Clooney and well-known Christian personalities and authors Rick Warren, James Dobson, Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson. Variety called Lord Save Us From Your Followers "admirably bold," while USA Today described it as "Michael Moore-meets-Monty Python." The Chicago Sun Times said the film "aims to raise the level of religious discourse ... a convincing argument for civil debate," while The Oregonian described the film as "A peace offering, not a battle cry."
