Christian book sales in September were down over the same time in 2009, but are up year to date, according to the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA).

The average decrease for September compared to a year ago for the 15 member houses reporting sales was 9.3%, the association revealed in its monthly report. The average year-to-date sales increase was 6%.

Overall, monthly returns were up on September 2009 (from 8.83% to 11.19%) but the year-to-date rate was down from 17.14% in 2009 to 14.26% this year.

The ECPA data is compiled from sales information supplied by members for inclusion in the monthly sales reports by the Association of American Publishers: Bardin & Marsee Publishing, Concordia Publishing House, Crossway, David C. Cook, Foundation Publications, Gospel Light, Harvest House Publishers, InterVarsity Press, Kregel Publications, Moody Publishers, NavPress, Rose Publishing, Thomas Nelson, Tyndale House Publishers and Wesleyan Publishing House.
