Novelist Terri Blackstock's books are grounded in real-life situations—her own. Her inspiration comes from "the way God is dealing with me in my own life," she reveals in a series of mini interviews for a new online service connecting authors and Christian retailers.

After starting on a plot, she often finds "I will go through a trial myself" that she weaves into her storyline, she says at Christian Retailing's Author Corner. "I think God works it out exactly that way I can pass those lessons on to my readers."

The author of more than 30 titles, including the "Restoration" series from Zondervan, Blackstock is one of more than 50 writers featured as Author Corner launched. They speak about what motivates them, how they work and people and books that have been influential.

Blackstock recommends Bill Myers' The God Hater as one of the books she believes everyone should read, as a title that "explains the Trinity better than I had ever seen." The "Lord of the Rings" trilogy is "a beautiful picture of salvation and sacrifice," adding that it is "beautifully written."

Blackstock's Night Light (Zondervan) won Christian Retailing's 2007 Retailers Choice Award for General Fiction.
