The premiere awards program for the Christian products industry is introducing new categories to mark the continued growth of inspirational fiction.

New titles released in 2010—a year that has seen widespread media interest in Christian novels and strong sales—will be eligible for consideration in expanded categories for the 2011 Christian Retailing Retailers Choice Awards.

Nominations for the prizes open soon, with six fiction categories included. Fiction awards will be offered for children's, contemporary romance, fantasy/science fiction, general, historical romance and mystery/suspense.

Other new categories in the record number of 46 awards being offered for the best books, gifts, music and more are first-time authors, devotional and eschatology.

"The new categories reflect the way the Christian products world continues to change and grow," said Christian Retailing Editor Andy Butcher. "It has been rewarding to see how the Retailers Choice Awards have become embraced as an important way of recognizing and honoring some of the most important new products in our industry."

Suppliers are invited to enter products released during 2010 in the nomination period between Dec. 13, 2010, and Jan. 31, 2011. The nomination fee is $50 per entry. An early-bird offer of one free entry with every five paid entries runs through Jan. 17, 2011.

Voting will be by Christian bookstore owners, managers and staff evaluating the nominees for the impact they have had. The winners will be announced in April 2011.
