Pastor and author Bill Hybels urges leaders in the Christian products world to build cash and personal reserves to see them through the big changes being experienced in the industry. The Willow Creek Community Church leader outlines the leadership principles he believes are important for the "new reality" of publishing processes and consumer practices in a guest column for the January 2011 edition of Christian Retailing magazine. "When an organization is hit broadside by a rogue wave, it really, really helps to be sitting on healthy cash reserves." They "give leaders what leaders need most in a time of crisis, which is time." But many Christian businesses and organizations have not worked out what kind of reserves they should have, he says. He says that "when you're good with God, good with your family and committed to your physical disciplines, you'll be able to lead at your very best. "The best thing you bring to the table at your place of work every single day is a filled-up bucket and a heart that's overflowing with optimism because of your faith in God," Hybels adds. "When you show up at your organization with a fresh spirit and a grace-filled demeanor, everybody around you benefits in profound ways.
