Graduation season presents opportunities for Christian retailers who think outside the box, says gift supplier DaySpring. The card company offers promotional and merchandising ideas in an article in the March issue of Inspirational Gift Mart magazine, a supplement to Christian Retailing. "Not all gifts to celebrate the milestone of graduation need to be 'grad-specific,' with the obligatory mortarboard and tassel," writes Brenda Turner, director of marketing communications. "Gifts can not only celebrate the achievement itself, but also prepare or provide for the future. So the season offers retailers a chance to pull products from many departments within their stores. They can gather giftware, books, music CDs, graduation and celebration cards, DVDs and even home-décor items from around the store to feature on a special outpost or tabletop. "Even with space limitations, retailers can be successful with a small counter display near the checkout register." In addition, stores should note that gift selections may vary according not only to the age and life session of the graduate, but also the purchase, Turner advises. "Grandparents often want to select a 'legacy' item like an inspirational book with a special theme or life lesson that can be carried through the years," she notes. Other buyers "are looking for versatile items that can be put to good use and transcend the season." Read the complete article in the March issue of Inspirational Gift Mart. |
