Christian bookstores saw more traffic in January, but customers spent less, according to the latest research by America's Research Group (ARG).

The stores were visited by 9.3% of the population, with per-capita spending at $5.83. That was up from November 2010 (5.7%, $2.30), but mixed over the same period last year (9%, $6.35).

The data was drawn from ARG's bi-monthly Consumer Mind Reader studies, which survey shoppers ages 20 to 59 in 26 categories, including discount stores, major department stores and membership wholesale clubs.

Britt Beemer, ARG founder and chairman, is the author of two consumer research studies for CBA and has spoken at Christian product industry events.
