A Christian publisher's online promotion efforts have been featured in a report on changes in book marketing. Legacy Press' success with a blog tour for Sherry Kyle's The Christian Girl's Guide to Style was cited in the March/April issue of Book Business magazine. The publication's "The New Era of Book Marketing" noted how the San Diego-based publisher arranged to have Kyle write for or be interviewed by other bloggers instead of arranging a traditional promotional tour after the book's fall 2010 release. "We saw a direct correlation in sales of the book to every time there was a blog out there," Legacy marketing representative Rachel Harrison Brown told Book Business, noting the blog tour's return on investment was more than 50% higher than would have been expected on a typical tour. "There are two major factors that figure into the calculation, reduced spend and significantly larger reach," Brown said. The blog events reached a total of 14,000 viewers—a number that an author might not reach if on the road for six months, she said. "Online marketing methods are excellent because customers can share a great find really quickly and easily," Brown said. "And, as a company, it allows us to have a conversation with the reader, and that relationship is what has the most potential." |
