Disney's Tangled was released March 29 on DVD and Blu-ray by Walt Disney Home Video, and distributed to Christian stores by Spring Arbor Distributors. Walt Disney Pictures' 50th animated feature film, Tangled re-envisions the Brothers Grimm classic story of Rapunzel. Grossing nearly $568 million in global theatrical sales, Tangled features the voice talents of Mandy Moore (A Walk to Remember, The Princess Diaries) as Rapunzel and Zachary Levi (TV's Chuck, Less Than Perfect) as her unlikely hero, Flynn Rider. Most Christian film critics liked Tangled. MovieGuide magazine said the movie, rated PG for brief mild violence, preserves "the folktale's moral themes. The movie can even be interpreted in a Christian, redemptive, spiritual manner." Additionally, Christianity Today magazine said the movie tells "the story of a person who believes there is more out there than what's she been told—and seeks an answer to the gentle knocking on her heart." Glen Keane, a committed Christian and Disney animator since 1974 who worked on Tangled, told Christianity Today that the movie's story started from a spiritual base. "At the very beginning, you see a drop falling from heaven," he said. "James 1:17 says, 'Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.' That truth is this amazing source of life and beauty and transformation (in Rapunzel)." Tangled retails for $29.99 on DVD and $39.99 on Blu-ray. Click here for more information on the film. |
