Christopher Yuan's life as a prodigal drove his mother Angela to nearly do the unthinkable, before the pair found new hope in Christ.

They tell the story of their struggles after he came "out of the closet" in Out of a Far Country: A Gay Son's Journey to God. A Broken Mother's Search for Hope, to be published next month by WaterBrook Press.

Christopher was in his third year at dental school when he went deeper into the gay lifestyle, sliding into drug use and dealing. In her despair, Angela bought a one-way train ticket to see Christopher, intending to say goodbye for the last time and commit suicide.

But on the journey she read a pamphlet given to her by a minister and gave her life to Christ. Her son's turning point came later, when he was imprisoned after a federal drug raid of his home.

Angela's advice to parents of prodigal children is to "pray and fast unceasingly and never ever, ever give up," but tough love is also necessary. "We have to willing to do whatever He tells us to do because often I think the parents have such a soft heart and loving heart, they want to spare their children of prison or try to please their children."

The book includes a foreword by Kay Warren and is endorsed by Joseph Stowell and Chuck Colson.
