Independent booksellers in all markets have "remained relatively stable," according to BookStats, the new landmark statistical survey by the Association of American Publishers (AAP) and Book Industry Study Group. "Sales and distribution channels continue the evolution to online, while bricks-and-mortar outlets show varying levels of change," the joint report said. "As expected, online retail has experienced increasing growth. Yet while larger chain retailers—including their online sales operations—have seen erosion during the three years, independent booksellers have remained relatively stable." Incorporating net sales revenue and unit data from more than 1,100 U.S. publishers, BookStats is billed as the most comprehensive evaluation and analysis of the book industry, with information covering 2008-2010. The full report will be made available in July. Click here for more information. |
