Precious Moments is helping survivors of the May tornado that devastated Joplin, Mo., celebrate their first Christmas in new homes. The gift company spearheaded an effort involving more than a dozen businesses to provide holiday decorations and gift cards for 10 families settling into new homes built by Habitat for Humanity in just 16 days, as part of the Ten for Joplin project. The collaborative effort led by Precious Moments—which is headquartered in Carthage, Mo., and suburban Chicago—provides families who lost their homes in the storm with pre-lit trees, holiday ornaments and figurines. Roman donated hundreds of ornaments to Precious Moments for the effort. “This has been one of the most rewarding experiences we have ever shared,” said Sarah Wells, Precious Moments human resources director, who acted as the team leader for the event. The 10 families traveled Friday, Dec. 2, to the Precious Moments Chapel in Carthage, Mo.—part of the Joplin metropolitan area—to receive an array of Christmas trimmings. Each family also received a Precious Moments nativity set and a gift card to buy gifts and food. A “mini mall” was set up in the Visitors’ Center at the Chapel, where families could “shop.” |
