InterVarsity Press (IVP) has been recognized for its commitment to caring for the environment by recycling. The Westmont, Ill.-based publisher received the Commercial Recycling Award from the Village of Westmont last month and was recognized as “the best and most improved big business recycler.” IVP has instituted an environmental stewardship program by educating and informing its employees on how to be responsible with natural resources. In 2010, the company recycled 12,000 pounds of paper, and it also allows the public to drop off paper in its recycling dumpsters. “We feel it is not only important to use recycled paper in the books we publish, but to also practice good stewardship by instilling environmental awareness in our employees and practicing good recycling habits within our company,” said Anne Gerth, director of production and fulfillment. “We are committed to protecting the environment and to the responsible use of natural resources.” IVP also has published several creation-care books, including The Care of Creation by R.J. Berry, ed. (IVP Academic); Our Father’s World by Edward R. Brown (IVP Books); and Green Revolution by Ben Lowe (Likewise). The Village of Westmont, along with DuPage County and Waste Management, launched the community recycling program in the spring to promote environmental responsibility in local businesses. In addition to receiving the big business award, IVP won free garbage pick-up for one month. |
