Kirk Franklin was presented with two GRAMMY Awards last night—Best Gospel Album for Hello Fear (Verity Gospel/Fo Yo Soul/Provident Distribution) and Best Gospel Song for the winning album’s title track. Singer-songwriter Laura Story won Best Contemporary Christian Music Song with “Blessings” (Fair Trade Services/Provident Distribution), while worship leader Chris Tomlin saw his sixstepsrecords/Sparrow Records album And If Our God Is for Us… (EMI CMG Distribution) top the Best Contemporary Christian Music Album category, passing entries from Gungor, Brandon Heath, Leeland, Mandisa and Royal Tailor. Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance went to Le’Andria Johnson for “Jesus,” a track from The Awakening of Le’Andria Johnson (Music World Gospel/EMI CMG), surpassing Steven Curtis Chapman, Brandon Heath, Chris Tomlin and Natalie Grant, nominated for her performance on “Alive” as Mary Magdalene from Music Inspired by The Story.
