Nominees for the 13th annual Christy Awards have been announced, and Bethany House tops the nominations with seven, followed by B&H Publishing Group with five. The awards for excellence in Christian fiction—to be presented at a dinner event Monday, July 16, in Orlando, Fla.—will go to winners in nine categories: Contemporary Romance; Contemporary Series, Sequels and Novellas; Contemporary Standalone; First Novel; Historical; Historical Romance; Suspense; Visionary; and Young Adult.

The nominees in the Contemporary Romance category are My Foolish Heart, Susan May Warren (Tyndale House Publishers); Larkspur Cove, Lisa Wingate (Bethany House/Baker Publishing Group); and Wolfsbane, Ronie Kendig (Barbour Publishing).

In Contemporary Series, Sequels and Novellas, the nominees are: The Amish Midwife, Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould (Harvest House Publishers); Dancing on Glass, Pamela Binnings Ewen (B&H Publishing Group); and The Touch, Randall Wallace (Tyndale House Publishers).

Comtemporary Standalone nominees are: Dry as Rain, Gina Holmes (Tyndale); Promises to Keep, Ann Tatlock (Bethany House); and Words, Ginny Yttrup (B&H Publishing Group).

Yttrup’s Words also was nominated as a First Novel, the only work to get a double nomination this year. An Eye for Glory, Karl Bacon (Zondervan) and Southern Fried Sushi, Jennifer Rogers Spinola (B&H) were also nominated.

Lynn Austin was nominated in the Historical category, which she won last year, with Wonderland Creek (Bethany House). Her fellow nominees were Allison Pittman with Forsaking All Others (Tyndale) and Liz Curtis Higgs with Mine is the Night (WaterBrook Multnomah).

In Historical Romance, two of the nominees were also nominated in 2011, and one of them won the category. For 2012, nominees were The Maid of Fairbourne Hall, Julie Klassen (Bethany House), who won last year; A Lasting Impression, Tamera Alexander (Bethany House), who was also nominated last year; and To Die For, Sandra Byrd (Howard Books).

In Suspense, Steven James, who won last year, is nominated this year with The Queen (Revell/Baker Publishing Group), as are Brandilyn Collins with Over the Edge (B&H) and Mark Bertrand with Pattern of Wounds (Bethany House).

Visionary titles nominated this year are: The Chair, James Rubart (B&H); Forbidden, Ted Dekker and Tosca Lee (Center Street); and Veiled Rose, Anne Elisabeth Stengl (Bethany House).

In Young Adult, the nominees are: How Huge the Night, Heather Munn and Lydia Munn (Kregel Publications); Merchant’s Daughter, Melanie Dickerson (Zondervan); and Waterfall, Lisa T. Bergren (David C Cook).

Popular host and best-selling author Higgs will emcee the event for the third year, and the keynote speaker will be announced at a later date.
