A new Christian book awards program has been launched by Publishing services firm Jenkins Group in response to the growing popularity of faith-based books. With the motto "Shining a Light on Exemplary Christian Books," the Illumination Christian Book Awards (ICBA) are designed to honor the year's best new titles "written and published with a Christian worldview," organizers said. "Our world is filled with anger and selfishness, and people are looking for something to have faith in—something beyond themselves," said ICBA Director Jim Barnes. "The Bible was the first 'self-help' book, filled with stories meant to show us how to live together in peace. These awards are dedicated to that spirit, and to books that help answer the simple question: 'What Would Jesus Do?' " The contest features 16 categories, including Bible Study; Christian Living; Devotional; Theology; Ministry/Mission; Catholic; Spirituality; and Self-Help/Recovery. The awards program is open to all Christian-themed books published since Jan. 1, 2012. Early-bird entry fee is $75 per category through Aug. 2, and $85 per category from Aug. 3-Oct. 18—the deadline for entries. A portion of the entry fees will be donated to a charitable organization, which this year is Habitat for Humanity. Judging will be based on content, design and production quality, "with emphasis on innovation and creative ways of expressing a Christian worldview," organizers said. The judging panel includes experts in education, clergy, book production and bookselling. Three to five finalists per category will be named around Dec. 10.
