The graphic novel, which follows King David's final 40 years, was honored with first-place awards for Best Graphic Novel and Best Interior Design from the IBA. Volume 2, which features more than 400 panel illustrations in 144 pages by Mitch Foust, is a companion edition to Thompson's first graphic novel about David, which traces the Old Testament king's life from age 14 to 30. David: The Illustrated Novel, Volume 1 won a second-place IBA award for Best Graphic Novel in 2010. Other winners included Tamara Amos' Gift of a Servant (Mystical Rose) in Religion: Christian Inspirational; Judy Azar LeBlanc's I Am That I Am: Tracing the Footprints of God (Crosslink Publishing) in Religion: Christianity; and Yolanda A. Shanks' Not Just a Hearer but a Doer, Volume One (Believers Press) in Religion: Prayer & Devotionals. Narrowed down from more than 1,000 entries, more than 300 winners and finalists were announced May 20 in 80-plus categories. Awards were presented for titles published in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
