Zondervan and Christian Comic Arts Society (CCAS) have partnered to host three events and exhibit at the San Diego Comic-Con International 2013, which runs July 18-21 in San Diego. The July 19th CCAS Mixer will feature fans and creators together in "an informal after-hours time of socializing and networking as we 'talk shop' about Christians in the world of comics," organizers said. Scheduled for July 20, "Spiritual Themes in Comics" will feature a discussion on spiritual themes, including panelists Chris Koelle (The Book of Revelation, Zondervan); Kai Carpenter (Last Adam: Firstborn, Zondervan); Chip Brown, senior vice president and publisher at HarperCollins Christian Publishing; Mike Shields (Team 33 Productions/168 Film Project); and moderator Buzz Dixon (Savage Angels). The Christian Comics Arts Society General Meeting, set for July 21, will feature an in-depth analysis on interpreting the Bible in visual formats. Panelists include Doug Tennapel (Tommysaurus Rex, Scholastic); Mike S. Miller (Injustice: Gods Among Us, A Game of Thrones); Kevin Sorbo (Hercules, Andromeda, Soul Surfer); Chip Brown; and moderator Brett Burner (Lamp Post). At the four-day event, CCAS and Zondervan—a division of HarperCollins Christian Publishing—will also sell signed copies of The Book of Revelation, a graphic novel recently ranked No. 1 on Amazon best-sellers list for Religious Arts and Photography. The country's largest comic-book convention, Comic-Con is expected to draw a sellout attendance of more than 125,000. |
