Paramount Pictures has started production on the true story told in the New York Times best-selling book Same Kind of Different as Me: A Modern-Day Slave, an International Art Dealer, and the Unlikely Woman Who Bound Them Together (W Publishing Group, 2006). Academy Award nominees Greg Kinnear and Djimon Hounsou and Academy Award winners Renee Zellweger and Jon Voight will star in the film. The full-length feature film marks the directorial debut of Michael Carney from a script he co-wrote with co-author Ron Hall and Alexander Foard. Mary Parent and Cale Boyter will produce the film through Disruption Entertainment, alongside Hall, Darren Moorman and Stephen Johnson. The executive producers are Foard, Carney, Chris Bancroft and Hans Graffunder. Same Kind of Different as Me by Hall and Denver Moore with Lynn Vincent is a tale told in two unique voices—those of Hall and Moore—weaving their completely different life experiences into one common journey where both learn “whether we is rich or poor or something in between this earth ain’t no final restin’ place. So in a way, we is all homeless—just workin’ our way toward home.” “Same Kind of Different as Me is quite frankly one of the finest books that we've ever had the honor of publishing,” said Matt Baugher, senior vice president and publisher for W Publishing Group. “This remarkable true story of friendship, forgiveness and redemption reminds us all that a life-changing experience is often right in front of us in the most unlikely of places. Over a million people have already been impacted by this book, and the movie will now bring forth millions more. We are proud to partner with author Ron Hall, whose tireless efforts have made all of this possible, and the staff at Paramount Pictures, who has caught the vision of this powerful work and brought together an incredible cast to bring it to life on screen. Like so many others, I can't wait to see it!” |
