Nov. 29 is “Small Business Saturday,” a promotion that urges shoppers to spend their hard-earned cash at local small businesses. American Express started the promotion in 2010 to help small businesses draw more customers the Saturday after Thanksgiving and beyond. Small Business Saturday also falls on the final day of Parable Christian Stores’ eight-day Thanksgiving week sale (Nov. 22-29). “We have an incredible one-day-only Small Business Saturday Sale planned, featuring the lowest prices of the season on titles like the Heaven Is for Real DVD, The Bible miniseries DVD and the Heaven hardcover by Randy Alcorn, plus select best-selling books and Bibles for only $3.97 and $7.97,” said Sally Ross, marketing and communications strategist at Parable Group. “Our Small Business Saturday event will be promoted in catalogs, emails, SnapRetail, in-store signage, bag stuffers and social media,” Ross said. “We are greatly encouraging the public to support their favorite small businesses by shopping locally on the Saturday after Thanksgiving!” Harold Herring, owner of Christian Soldier in Goldsboro, North Carolina, a Covenant Group store, is also seeking to draw customers for Small Business Saturday. “We’re doing a special email to our preferred customers, and I’m doing a Facebook video, which always pulls good views, and we’ll have signs in the store,” Herring told Christian Retailing. |
