Award-winning author Jane Kirkpatrick now has more than 1 million copies in print, WaterBrook Multnomah announced Dec. 11. Kirkpatrick has written more than 25 books with seven publishers. Many of her historical novels have been set in the American West, with her first, A Sweetness to the Soul, winning the prestigious Western Heritage Wrangler Award in 1995. “I am amazed, truly, at the pleasure I've had working with all these teams to tell stories we have placed in the hands of over 1 million readers,” Kirkpatrick said. “It’s a team effort, and I'm grateful.” Based on the lives of real women, Kirkpatrick’s books have received numerous accolades, including being finalists for the Christy, Spur and Oregon Book Awards, with A Tendering in the Storm (WaterBrook Press, 2007) winning the WILLA Literary Award and A Flickering Light (WaterBrook Press, 2009) being awarded the WILLA and named among Library Journal’s Best Books of 2009. WaterBrook Multnomah President and Publisher Stephen W. Cobb celebrated the author’s achievements. “We’re extremely proud of Jane’s accomplishments,” Cobb said. “She is an exceptional writer who is able to capture the stories of real-life women in history to create inspiring stories of their endeavors and struggles relatable to readers today.” WaterBrook Multnomah has published 23 of Kirkpatrick’s books, and her agent, Joyce Hart of Hartline Literary Agency, recalled the story behind Jane’s first book, A Sweetness to the Soul, published in 1995. “It was the first book I sold as a literary agent, and Multnomah was the first publisher we took it to,” Hart said. Kirkpatrick’s writing consists of the historical fiction series “Dream Catcher,” “Kinship & Courage,” “Tender Ties,” “Change & Cherish” and “Portrait of the Heart,” along with six individual historical novels—A Land of Sheltered Promise, The Daughter’s Walk, Barcelona Calling, Where Lilacs Still Bloom, One Glorious Ambition and A Light in the Wilderness—and three novellas: A Log Cabin Christmas, The Midwife’s Legacy and Sincerely Yours. She has also written four nonfiction works: Homestead, A Simple Gift of Comfort, Aurora: An American Experience in Quilt, Community and Craft and A Promise of Hope for Difficult Times. Believing that each life is a story that others read first, Kirkpatrick encourages individuals to discover the power of their own story to transform lives. |
