Religious presses see September sales boost |

For the month of September, sales of hardcover books from religious presses rose 5.2%, paperbacks were up just 0.1% and e-books increased 2.6%. For the year to date (January-September), overall sales from religious presses were up 2.1% compared to the same period in 2013, $401.4 million this year compared to $393.2 million in 2013. AAP notes that publishing is healthy thus far in 2014 overall. For the year-to-date, sales were up 4.9% in all categories. Within the growing Children’s & Young Adult category (up 22.4%), all formats continued to experience double-digit growth year-to-date; e-books grew the most, with a +52.7% change in the first nine months. Downloaded audiobooks remain popular in Adult Fiction/Nonfiction and saw a 27% growth over the same period in 2013. More than 1,200 publishers reported figures to the AAP. |
