Sales of religious books slumped 9.2 percent January through April compared to the same time period last year, according to the latest monthly StatShot report from the American Association of Publishers (AAP). For the month of April, sales of titles from religious presses were down 19.9 percent compared to April 2014.
The decline reflects an industry-wide trend of diminished sales in that period. Overall, publishers’ book sales for January through April were down 5.6 percent for the year to date at $3 billion, compared to $3.2 billion for the same four months last year. For the month only, overall sales were down 3.3 percent. Approximately 1,200 publishers reported for April. |
