War Room continued its strong box office performance, while another Christian film—90 Minutes in Heaven—debuted in this weekend’s top 10 at the domestic box office. 90 Minutes in Heaven, the motion picture debut from Giving Films, the movie production company of Family Christian Ministries, made more than $2.1 million on 878 screens during its opening weekend. Distributed by Samuel Goldwyn Films, the adaptation of Don Piper’s best-selling book (Revell/Baker Publishing Group) was the ninth-highest grossing film domestically, topping The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Ant-Man. TriStar’s War Room was unseated from the top spot by two new releases—The Perfect Guy and The Visit—but still made a healthy $7.4 million during the weekend. War Room has already made $39 million, according to Box Office Mojo, multiplying its meager $3 million budget 10 times over. On Sunday, War Room surpassed Fireproof to become the Kendrick Brothers’ highest-grossing film. |
