The Mardel Christian retail chain hosted Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson at three of its stores on Oct. 21-23. Carson was promoting and signing copies of his new book, A More Perfect Union (Sentinel/Penguin Group). The signings were hosted at Mardel locations in Edmond, Oklahoma; Springfield, Missouri; and Overland Park, Kansas. More than 8,000 in total came to see Carson. Each location averaged 2,000 people through the lines. The Springfield location was the largest book signing the Carson tour has done to date, hosting 4,000 people. Dr. Carson stayed until every person who waited to meet him and to get his signature was able to do so. Kelly Black, advertising director for Mardel, commented on this unique opportunity. “When we were approached to have Dr. Carson in our stores, we didn’t hesitate to accept their offer,” Black said. “We knew the Christian community supported Dr. Carson, and we wanted to provide the opportunity for the public to get a rare and up-close encounter with this great author." |
