Missio Alliance has released its Top 10 Essential Reading List of 2015, including five InterVarsity Press (IVP) titles. The Missio Alliance editors selected the books based on two criteria: They excel in championing the intersection of theological reflection and ministry practice, and they offer a needed and irenic exploration of a crucial issue facing the church in North America. The editors wrote: “If you’re looking for books that seek to advance a theologically robust, diverse and hopeful vision for evangelical witness amid the challenges and opportunities facing the North American church in the 21st century, we think these should be at the top of your list!” The five IVP titles on the list were Soong-Chan Rah’s Prophetic Lament: A Call for Justice in Troubled Times; Debra Hirsch’s Redeeming Sex; Richard Twiss’ Rescuing the Gospel From the Cowboys: A Native American Expression of the Jesus Way; Mandy Smith’s The Vulnerable Pastor; and Noel Castellanos’ Where the Cross Meets the Street: What Happens to the Neighborhood When God Is at the Center. Three Zondervan titles also made the list: Gerald Hiestand and Todd Wilson’s The Pastor Theologian: Resurrecting an Ancient Vision; Carolyn Custis James’ Malestrom: Manhood Swept Into the Currents of a Changing World; and Scot McKnight’s A Fellowship of Differents: Showing the World God’s Design for Life Together. Tyndale House Publishers' Jesus Outside the Lines: A Way Forward for Those Who Are Tired of Taking Sides by Scott Sauls and Becoming the Gospel: Paul, Participation and Mission (Eerdmans) by Michael J. Gorman also were included. |
