A number of Christian retail stores reported strong sales for the Christmas 2015 season. Harold Herring, owner of The Christian Soldier in Goldsboro, North Carolina, reported that his Covenant Group store was “truly blessed.” Sales were “up 13 percent over last year.” Sue Smith, manager at Baker Book House in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and CBA chair, reflected on a similar jump in sales. “The store saw a steady traffic flow since Thanksgiving,” Smith said. “As of today (Dec. 29), our in-store sales are up 14 percent over last December. Michigan has experienced an unusually warm December, which encouraged customers to get out and get it done!” Rick Lewis said his Logos of Dallas store did exceptionally well this year, but he did run into a supply issue. “I haven't finished the numbers yet, but it appears this was the best December in three years,” he told Christian Retailing on Dec. 31. “I think we will be a bit down for the year, even though we finished strong. It might have been a little better if Harper had printed enough 7 Women (by Eric Metaxas, Thomas Nelson). That was our No. 1 title, yet we were out of it for two weeks. We also faced the same issue with Penguin. Songs of Jesus (by Timothy Keller with Kathy Keller) would have been in our top 10 had they printed enough. Money still may be tight for the publishers following Family's mistreatment of the industry earlier this year.” |
