The American Bible Society (ABS) has named the Rev. Dr. Paul G. Irwin as its new president/CEO. Irwin, who has served as interim president since July 2005, was confirmed unanimously by the board of trustees after a yearlong search process.

Irwin, who has served as a member of the board of trustees for many years, is “very knowledgeable about the American Bible Society and is deeply committed to the Bible cause,” said the Rev. Dr. Lamar Vest, chairman of the board of trustees. “I am extremely pleased with his selection. He will energetically push forward the mission of the Bible Society to share God's Word with the world.”

“It is a privilege and an honor to be a partner with the dedicated supporters and devoted staff of the American Bible Society,” Irwin said. “This is a wonderful opportunity to join forces with thousands of committed Christian people who have and will continue to advance the Bible cause in this country and around the world.”

Irwin's vision is “to bring God's Word to every person on earth in the next 10 years,” when ABS will mark its 200th anniversary, a statement said.
