Zondervan has announced that on July 1 it will release the Africa Bible Commentary, the “first-ever one-volume commentary produced in Africa by African theologians to meet the needs of African pastors, students and lay leaders,” the Grand Rapids, Mich., company said in a statement. Approximately 70 evangelical African scholars contributed to the commentary, which “explains God's Word within the context of an African worldview and uses African proverbs, songs and stories to illustrate the text,” the statement said. The Purpose-Driven Life author Rick Warren has endorsed the commentary, which will address “distinctively African concerns” including polygamy, AIDS and mutilation, Zondervan said. “This monumental work of biblical scholarship is filled with helpful insights into God's Word that every pastor, Bible teacher and Christian will benefit from,” Warren said.
