As Zondervan readies the release in March of the trade-paper edition of the best-selling The Purpose-Driven Life (PDL), there's high anticipation for a new Warren book-but it's likely to come from Kay instead of Rick. “There's certainly a need for a next book,” said Zondervan President and CEO Doug Lockhart, yesterday. “All of our retailers are asking us. We don't have a firm date, but it is certainly something that we are hoping for.” Meanwhile the publisher is talking with Rick Warren's wife, Kay, for a title Lockhart said could appear later this year. “She is very passionate about the poor and being involved in helping the AIDS situation around the world. We are in discussions with her about that.”
In the meantime, there's still life in the original PDL, which has sold 25 million copies in the U.S. and 5 million more internationally since its release four years ago. It sold 40,000 copies in December, spurred by a Christmas TV broadcast from Warren's Saddleback Church. That contributed to what Lockhart said was a good Christmas season for the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based company.
