Religious books see sales decline Print Email

Religious books posted a decline of 19.8% for March, with sales of $62.6 million, according to the Association of American Publishers (AAP). However, sales of religious books were up by 3.4% for the year.

AAP previously reported that sales in the category were up 31.8% for February, with sales totaling $39.5 million.

Publishing sales showed growth in March for most of the categories tracked by the association, with net sales up by 1.7% for the month and 7.8% for the year.

The Adult Hardcover category was up by 27.5% in March, with sales of $135.9 million. Adult Paperback sales saw a gain of 3.2% for the month, with sales of $130.1 million, AAP said.

The Adult Mass Market category declined by 5.8% for March, with sales of $76.4 million and down 6.7% for the year. The Children's/Young Adult Hardcover category dropped 2.2% for the month, with sales of $47.6 million, but sales year-to-date were up by 17.3% for the year. The Children's/Young Adult Paperback category increased 13.7% for the month, with sales totaling $47.1 million. Sales were up by 2.7% for the year.

Audiobook sales posted an increase of 33.6 % for March compared to last year's figures, with sales totaling $19.1 million. Sales for the year in that category were up by 19%. E-books rose by 12% for the month, with sales of $3.2 million and an increase of 10.6% for the year, AAP said.
