Religious book sales decline |

Religious books sales dipped 2.6% in July for a total of $33.5 million, but the category was up 6.1% for the year to date. The decline in religious books revenues was revealed in the latest figures just released by the Association of American Publishers (AAP), which saw a month overall increase of 20% and yearly sales up 11.5%. The Adult Hardcover category was up by 28.6% for July with sales of $73.4 million; year-to-date sales were up also by 21%. Adult Paperback sales were down by 6.5% for the month ($102.4 million) while sales also decreased by 2.2% for the year. Revenues in the Adult Mass Market category fell by 24.7% for July to $62.9 million, contributing toward a 5.8% decline year-to-date. Children's/Young Adult (YA) Hardcover sales saw an increase of 504.2% with a total of $255.1 million; sales year-to-date were also up by 91.9%. The AAP also revealed that Children's/YA Paperback sales decreased 25.7% in July with sales totaling $36.9 million, but revenues were up 2.8% for the year. Audiobooks saw an increase of 240.8% for the month with sales totaling $32.1 million; sales for the whole year were up by 48.4%.
